Two-Ingredient Lip Balm
Two-Ingredient Lip Balm
I make this lip balm with only extra virgin olive oil from Fat Gold and the ultra-pure cappings wax from our honey extraction process. What else do you need? This formula contains a slightly higher amount of wax than your typical lip balms, creating a silky protective layer against the elements. Perfect for brutal Chicago winters and dry house air.
Our cappings wax blends beautifully with California-grown extra virgin olive oil from our friends at Fat Gold. In years past I helped prune trees at a farm they grew olives on! I can vouch for the care and thought they put into their olive oil.
What is cappings wax? Cappings wax is the thin layer of wax that is laid over honey-filled cells in a beehive. Beekeeping in our climate means that shortly after the honey is “capped” in a hive, we remove frames of it and extract it. In that process, the caps are removed by hand, rinsed, and melted down. Because cappings wax exists in the hive for such a short period, it remains quite pure. Wax in other areas of the hive tends to take on pollen, plant resin, and environmental toxins, so we believe that it’s not the best for body use. We save that wax for candles!
